02 / Illustrative project

Robotics assembly fixtures

A repeatable fixture brief for a robotics team preparing a pilot build.

Illustrative project, not a completed customer order. Quantities and materials below are example inputs; process and QC steps are a proposed plan, not recorded results.

The production brief

Define the component to locate, reference surfaces, clamp access and the operator's assembly sequence. A printed fixture is not approved for service until its actual use conditions have been reviewed.

Proposed production process

  1. Review mating geometry, fasteners and the customer's working load assumptions.
  2. Build a trial fixture for an operator and component fit review.
  3. Freeze the accepted revision and agree identification for repeated fixture sets.

Proposed QC checks

  • Agree reference points and inspection tools for the locating features.
  • Verify part placement, fastener access and the agreed assembly sequence.
  • Review trial-use feedback before releasing the remaining units.

Packing & shipping plan

Proposed: separate locating surfaces with protective dividers, group fixtures by station and include a revision-controlled parts list. Confirm receiving contact and shipping terms with the buyer.

Before batch release

Approval gate: documented trial-use acceptance and an agreed inspection checklist. Strength, tool life and repeatability require project-specific validation.
